Just found out last night that there will soon be an airworthy Fiat CR.42 Falco . I’m pretty excited about it.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

They were showing it more o r less complete at the end of 2018 but I can’t imagine the amount of tape to certify something like this to fly. The same place that completed this restoration also has a Gloster Gladiator.

But that’s every V-tail Bonanza

Is that the assclown who executed a go around after the props struck the ground a year or two ago?

Wrong, they go too fast and break off wings. This is more an SR22 crash missing the chute

The pilots’ union went on strike. Prop strike.

Gear up landings are quite uncommon in the SR-22. ;)

Those are costly to both the pilots and the airline...

I just want to know what in his brain thought “Prop strike, better just push through this” instead of “I’m on the ground and want to stay there.”

Either way, that thing is totaled. I wish I knew how/where/when he actually landed it (again)

That’s fantastic. Italian aircraft of that era were so cool.

No. This fella put it down on the day I did my long cross-country. It happened at KDWH. The main runway (35L) was closed because of him. It was the first time I landed on the small runway (35R) by myself. I enjoyed it so much, I did a touch and go and landed again!

I hope the belly was damaged enough that the gear was stuck up when he did land.

And that the FAA has a copy of that video when investigating the incident - so they can yank his license.  That’s Jack Roush levels of incompetence.

It’s sitting at the north end of the airport on its gear. It probably had a prop strike and the engine will need an overhaul. It will also need some repair work underneath, but it should be fine.

Ah, it looked similar.  Ash78 linked the video of the incident I was referring to in this post - that plane was a twin.  That video makes me angry every time I see it.  The idiot is lucky to be alive.

Pilots exceeded the Vne - Velocity Never Exceed. That’s like the redline on a tach. Once you enter the red zone the engine has permission to fall apart.

On a v-tail Bonanza, that was the speed at which the tail had permission to leave the airframe.

Somewhat related story: When I was in 6th grade, my dad borrowed the company’s CEO’s personal Aerostar to take the four of us from FL to CO for 2 weeks. They were on good terms, and the boss man didn’t get to use it much, so my dad was also just putting it through the paces and keeping everything in working order.

Apart from saving us 35 hours of driving, we had plenty of room for luggage (6-seater with power to spare) and to stretch our legs out. Flying into small town airports in the desert is pretty amazing.

Highlight of the trip: My brother (8) had just eaten a whole bag of BBQ potato chips and laid down in the back for a little nap. Final approach, 105 degrees between the buttes and canyons. The worst turbulence I’ve ever felt, and I’m in the right seat helping with VFR/traffic and radio frequency checks. 2 minutes out and RAAAAALFFF from the back seat, followed by puke splashing on our elbows and spattering the instrument panel. The worst thing I have ever smelled in my life, all while my dad is trying to avoid CFIT and stay lined up.

Thankfully it was a really clear day. But using paper towels to clean out the boss’s airplane for the next hour was not fun at all.

Honorable mention: Takeoff in Leadville...I swear we used 90% of the runway. Despite all the calculations, there’s always room for error.

Wow that must have been an awesome trip! Except for, you know, the puke cleanup part. Talk about pilot distraction!

I remember years ago I had MS Flight Simulator, and I would (try to) take off in a 172 from Leadville. It was nearly futile to try and get out of ground effect on a warm day.

What brought you to Leadville?  Your dad just wanting to say he flew out of there or Breckenridge?

Mostly that we wanted to see the high Rockies, Ouray, etc. It seemed like a fun thing to do from an aviation standpoint, too.

Thankfully there was no Instagram in 1989.

Mu first thought about the top photo is that it’s a shop. I would imagine there would at least be some disturbance on the surface of the water from the air pressure.

Truth. I used to own one and when we were shopping, 75% of them had a gear up landing in the logs, including the ours. Thankfully with someone worse at the controls.

I learned to fly on that plane, and 30yr and 10k hours later I still hear my father (who taught me to fly in it) say “down and 3 green” just before the flare. Right about when the plane shouts “30” at me I look down and verify thanks to my dad and our V35.
